About SATA
SATA Centre for Conscious Living holds the vision of providing accessible programs so we can heal together by connecting through open and authentic relationships.
Reconnecting with Self
Our Story
SATA developed when three women working in healthcare, each with different areas of expertise, connected with a shared vision. Dr. Valorie Masuda is a palliative care and emergency physician, Andrea Lemp, RN, MSN is a former Director of Mental Health and Substance Use Services at Island Health, who is trained in Functional Medicine and is a Chopra certified Meditation and Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga teacher. Dr. Laura McLean is a Specialist in Sleep Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine.
We were united by a common purpose: to create safe, accessible (primarily virtual) spaces and programs where people with diverse needs could come together, nurturing connection, shared humanity, and our innate capacity to heal.
Our clinical model leverages MSP programs so patients do not have to pay privately. It uses story and mindfulness meditation techniques which are accessible to those with limited resources of energy. Our business model prioritizes service over profit. And we believe in joy in work.
Our goal is decolonized, nonpatriarchal, compassionate governance and leadership. We recognize that we are in a position of power and privilege. We are in the early stages of our journey, and there is much we do not know. We are grateful for continual opportunities to learn from friends, colleagues, patients, and mentors as we move through our process. We are humbled and honoured to be in relationship with – and to be learning from – Shawn and Heather Atleo and the Atleo Centre for Compassionate Leadership, Dr. Duncan Grady, an elder of the Circle of Indigenous Nations Society, West Kootenays, BC and Hwiemtun Fred Roland, cultural ambassador for the Quw’utsun people.
Our Guiding Path
Our Mission & Values
We commit to creating a safe environment for our community. Compassionately developing relationships with awareness and understanding that each person has their own unique experiences and perspectives.
Community/belonging
We believe wholeness occurs in a non-hierarchical, non-patriarchal, decolonized community.
Honesty
Honesty is a commitment to truthfulness in words and actions. It encourages us to be open and transparent in our interactions with others and ourselves, fostering trust and authenticity.
Truth
Truth is more than simply stating facts; it’s about living in a way that aligns with our principles and values and recognizing truth as a personal perspective so we can respect the truth of others.
It challenges us to be honest with ourselves and to live authentically, embracing the principles of love, respect, bravery, honesty, humility.
Accountability
We commit to routinely creating and maintaining safe spaces, in order to hold each other with compassion and humility, so we can be accountable in our practices, keeping the participant’s wellbeing as the highest priority.
Wholeness
We understand wholeness as each person’s unique integration of body, mind, emotions and spirit.
We value Spirit
We encourage connecting to our spirit, to the spirit of others and to universal consciousness.
We honour safety
We commit to creating a safe environment for our community. Compassionately developing relationships with awareness and understanding that each person has their own unique experiences and perspectives.
Humility
Is the recognition of our place within the grand tapestry of existence. It reminds us to approach life with modesty, understanding that we are but one part of a greater whole. It keeps us grounded and free from arrogance. (From 7 Grandfathers)
We honour the earth
We are grateful for the things that the earth provides and will treat her and her creation with love and respect.
Respect
Recognition of one another’s unique strengths and role in our community. Maintaining balance around this and creating and maintaining space for all voices.
Involvement of colleagues/mentors/advisors will be done in a way that is not tokenism. We will show respect and gratitude through adequate compensation.
